Anatomy of a Scene

The movies that I am choosing for this post are “Remember The Titans” and “The Waterboy”. The first movie is a drama and the second movie is a comedy and they are both two of my favorite movies I’ve watched in my life. “Remember The Titans” is a great drama that is about a football team that had to integrate with multiple races and it was at a time that it was looked down upon to not have an all-white school and football team. This is a true story about the football team but a lot about the movie is false and filled with more drama for the big screen. The movie shows how the football team and their coach grow together and becomes a unit that is unbeatable because they are putting their differences aside and becoming a family. The big part was that the coach who was African American was told if he lost a game he would be fired to be replaced by the long-tenured white coach. It has a great meaning showing that everyone is human and we are all can get along without any hate or any type of discrimination. The team finished the season undefeated and won the championship which was the perfect ending for this drama.

The second movie is “The Waterboy” which is a comedy that stars Adam Sandler as the main character who is the water boy for a college football team that is very good but is later let go. He changed teams to a very bad college team that couldn’t win very much but later on the main character joins the team against the word of his mother who is extremely overprotective. It turns out that he is very good at football because he puts all his anger from bullying into playing linebacker and becomes a weapon for the school and they end up winning a good amount of games after forty consecutive losses before he played. They beat the school that fired him as their water boy and the coach got fired for losing in the bowl game.

The scene I am picking is the final big scene from “Remember The Titans”. The final scene was the team playing in the championship game against the non-mixed school who was supposed to win because not only were the refs paid off but they were supposed to be better talent. The other team initially was winning most of the game and it added to the drama that the titans were going to lose and everything they worked for would be lost. It added an extremely dramatic ending where the titans made a drive at the end of the game and ended up winning which caused the whole town to welcome the mixed team and everyone else instead of being afraid of them and being unwelcoming to them throughout the whole movie. They made it more dramatic by adding that the whole town changed from being racist and judgmental to loving everyone that came to the town. It showed a lot of growth in the town and made it feel good inside that things changed and everyone was being nice instead of being filled with hate.
